Today, we are taking a break from running around Tokyo and tracking down places from the Science Adventure Series. Literally. We are having a relaxing sit-down at Cafebar BlooMoon, featured many times in the Occultic;Nine anime, game, and books.
We would also like to mention that we contacted the restaurant in advance to ask for permission to film our visit, which they happily granted. We scheduled the visit before the dinner service so as not to disturb any customers. So while the restaurant looks empty in our video, trust us — it got pretty busy once the dinner service started.
You can watch the video, or read the article version below.
Located just about 250 meters from Kichijoji Station, the restaurant is tucked away on the second floor of an unassuming building. Walking up the stairs brings you to the main entrance, where you are immediately greeted by the staff. The first thing you notice when you enter is the amazing décor and theming of the whole restaurant.
The theming is based on Morocco, as the owners traveled extensively through the country and were inspired by it. The lighting is dim, and calming music plays throughout the restaurant. You are immediately struck by the peaceful atmosphere, which was exactly what I needed after spending the whole day exploring Kichijoji and nearby Nakano. In the middle of the restaurant is a huge Moroccan lamp, which makes for a really cool centerpiece.
The menu is quite extensive, both for food and drinks, and is only in Japanese. However, I had no trouble using Google Translate to read it. There are snacks, Japanese dishes, fusion food based on Moroccan cuisine, and they also serve pizzas. I don’t speak Japanese, but the staff spoke basic English, so ordering was not an issue at all. We even chatted briefly about the restaurant and the décor.
My order was quite simple: one beer (which later became a few more), fried edamame beans that paired well with the beer as a snack, and Taiwanese noodles. For the beer, I ordered one called BlooMoon, which was marked as a pale ale and was available on tap. I’m from the Czech Republic, so of course I had to go for a few beers, although they have a fully stocked bar and make both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Some of the drinks I saw being served to other customers looked quite interesting.
The edamame beans paired well with the beer — a surprisingly nice combo that I will now be missing back home. For the main dish, I ordered a Taiwanese noodle dish, which was delicious. The noodles were cooked perfectly, the spice level was on point, and I really appreciated the generous amount of fresh coriander leaves, as I absolutely love the taste.
I spent about two hours there, and it was a great, relaxing time. Even when it got busy, it was still quite a relaxing place. I felt completely recharged when leaving Kichijoji to head back to my hotel.
If you are a fan of Occultic;Nine, we would highly recommend a visit. Or if you are simply looking for a nicely themed restaurant or bar and are in or near Kichijoji, give BlooMoon a visit — it is definitely worth it.
The restaurant is about 250 meters from Kichijoji Station. The station is served by the Chūō–Sōbu Line, which connects it to Shinjuku, Akihabara, and other stations as far as Chiba. Most Chūō Line Rapid trains also stop at Kichijoji, linking it with Ochanomizu and Tokyo Station. Alternatively, you can reach Kichijoji via the Inokashira Line from Shibuya, with rapid trains making the trip in about 17 minutes. All these lines make it very easy to reach Kichijoji from almost anywhere in Tokyo.
Thanks again to the staff of Cafebar BlooMoon for allowing me to film and spend some time there. I had a really great time, and it was exactly what I needed after a long day of filming
