Olá, and welcome back to another cooking video. This time, we are looking at a Christmas dish from Anonymous;Code.
During the game’s Christmas scenes, Momo tells Pollon that her family cooked many dishes for the holiday, but that her absolute favorite was Bolo Rei. When Pollon says he’s never heard of it, Momo explains that it’s also called a “king cake,” filled with colorful fruit meant to resemble crown jewels. Check out the video on how we did, and then you can find the full recipe below it.
Ingredients
- 400 grams of flour
- 1 tablespoon of yeast
- 100 grams of sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Tablespoon of lemon zest
- 75 ml water
- 3 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of port wine
- 50 grams of butter
- 150 grams of candied or dried fruit
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
- In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon zest. Add water, 2 eggs, port wine, and the butter. Mix into a cohesive dough. If too sticky, add flour a little at a time; if too dry, add a splash of water.
- Knead the dough until smooth and elastic (about 8–10 minutes by hand).
- Place dough in a bowl, cover with foil or plastic wrap, and let rise for about one hour until slightly puffy.
- Knead the dough gently again, add in the candied or dried fruit. Reserve some to add later on top of the cake.
- Form dough into a ring on a parchment-lined baking tray. Cover and let rise for another hour.
- After one hour, beat one egg and brush the top of the ring. Press remaining fruit and nuts onto the top and optionally sprinkle a little vanilla sugar and cinnamon.
- Preheat oven to 180°C and bake for about 45 minutes. Watch the fruit on top—if it browns too quickly, lower the heat or move the tray lower in the oven.
- Remove from oven, let cool slightly, slice, and enjoy.
