Making the ago pasta from Robotics;Notes DaSH

Ojarimouse! Today, we’re continuing with Daru’s order in the Phase 2 of Robotics;Notes DaSH. His second dish is called ago pasta, or “flying fish pasta.” It’s a simple yet flavorful blend of Japanese and Italian cuisine. In this video, we recreate the recipe — with a few adjustments for those of us who don’t live where fish fly. Full recipe and the step-by-step guide can be found below the video. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 200 g spaghetti
  • 3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 2–3 dried red chili peppers (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons fish flakes (bonito or katsubuoshi)
  • 2–3 oil pickled sardines
  • A few fresh basil leaves

STEP BY STEP GUIDE

  1. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Before draining, keep one cup of the pasta water.
  2. Heat olive oil in a pan over low to medium heat. Add the sliced garlic and chili peppers, cooking gently until fragrant.
  3. Add the cooked spaghetti to the pan along with the reserved pasta water. Toss well and cook for a few minutes until most of the water evaporates.
  4. Add the fish flakes and a few basil leaves. Mix gently, then turn off the heat.
  5. Transfer the pasta to a plate. Place the sardines on top to match the in-game presentation or break them into smaller pieces and mix them in for easier eating.
  6. Enjoy!
