Everything revealed with the Steins;Gate Re:Boot release date announcement

With the announcement Steins;Gate Re:Boot’s release date, MAGES. has also shared a wealth of new details about the game itself.

One of the highlights of the announcement is the release of Re:Boot’s opening movie. The featured song is Kanako Itou’s iconic “Skyclad Observer,” now paired with entirely new visuals. While the animation has been completely remade, it still closely mirrors the original opening sequence. You can check out our comparison video here:

The game’s official website outlines four major features of the remake. The first is an easier-to-read story; according to MAGES., the script has been adjusted to improve readability and pacing. This was expected, as the company previously confirmed that Steins;Gate Re:Boot would follow the script structure of the similarly simplified Steins;Gate Elite.

While some fans have expressed concern that this may be a downgrade, the changes reflect a trend in modern visual novels toward shorter experiences, as many players no longer have the time to commit to thirty-hour-plus stories.

The second major feature highlighted is the complete rerecording of the game’s voice acting and sound effects. The soundtrack has also been newly rearranged by series composer Takeshi Abo.

The third feature highlighted is overhauled visuals. Every character sprite, background, and CG illustration has been recreated from scratch for Re:Boot. MAGES. has additionally confirmed that the number of in-game CGs has doubled compared to the original Xbox 360 release.

The final major feature highlighted is the addition of character animations using the E-mote system, previously also seen in Anonymous;Code. This technology allows characters to feel more alive through subtle facial expressions, eye movement, and more dynamic motion. You can see a showcase of these animations in the following video:

The character designs themselves have also been updated while remaining faithful to the original artstyle.

Steins;Gate’s Phone Trigger system will also return in Re:Boot. Although few details have been shared so far, it will most likely function similarly to how it worked in the original game.

MAGES. has additionally released several new CGs and background artwork. The backgrounds in particular look stunning, with an incredible level of detail that almost resembles real photography at first glance. In a previous interview, producer Tatsuya Matsubara noted that the team utilized old photographs of Akihabara while designing these backgrounds to ensure their depiction in Re:Boot remains as faithful to 2010 as possible.

Several limited editions were also announced for the Japanese market. Interestingly, the official Re:Boot website lists Japanese, English, and Chinese language support, potentially hinting at a simultaneous worldwide release. However, whether the English version of the game will launch on the same day as the Japanese release has yet to be confirmed by Spike Chunsoft.

In addition to the standard digital edition, Japanese players will be able to purchase a digital deluxe edition that includes the game, soundtrack, and a “Digital Visual Collection,” which appears to be a digital artbook. Buyers will also receive footage from the Steins;Gate “One World” event, which commemorated the game’s fifteenth anniversary.

The physical limited edition includes the game, a poster, a physical artbook, a soundtrack DVD, and a Blu-ray recording of the One World event.

Finally, the ultra-limited edition contains everything from the limited edition plus a framed poster featuring artwork by huke and a complete soundtrack collection covering all Steins;Gate games.

As usual, various Japanese retailers are also offering their own exclusive bonuses and preorder extras.
