Steins;Gate 0 characters may appear in Steins;Gate Re:Boot

Via IGN China, new details have been shared regarding Steins;Gate Re:Boot, the upcoming 2026 remake of the Steins;Gate visual novel. Check out our summary of the outlet’s interview with series producer Tatsuya Matsubara and scenario writer Naotaka Hayashi below.

New Re:Boot details

  • According to Hayashi, Re:Boot’s new ending (in addition to the original’s existing six) may not be related to Steins;Gate 0, but a character or characters from Steins;Gate 0 might appear in the game.
  • Steins;Gate drama CDs (which often introduce new, supplementary stories to the Steins;Gate narrative) were brought up by the interviewer, who wondered if they might ever be adapted into game or anime format. Hayashi notes that drama CD content heavily affected Steins;Gate 0’s narrative—but as for whether or not Re:Boot will include that content, we’ll need to “stay tuned.”
  • According to Matsubara, the “Re:Boot” subtitle does not have a direct connection to Anonymous;Code. In consideration of future plans for the Steins;Gate subseries, the staff decided to redevelop Steins;Gate using modern technology.
  • Matsubara says the true meaning of the series’s divergence values has not yet been revealed but will be in the future.
    • As Hayashi notes, series creative director Chiyomaru Shikura once said that six decimal places isn’t nearly enough to “describe the whole world,” so there might be an even more accurate value than that shown in Steins;Gate, to be revealed in a future title.
  • According to Matsubara, it’s unfortunate that Re:Boot couldn’t release in 2025 as expected, but the game itself is very far along in development. He explains that the team always has new ideas they’d like to implement during the development of a title; he also mentions that everyone hopes that [with the delay] Re:Boot can release in a more refined state. Although the game didn’t release in the anticipated launch period, Matsubara assures readers that the wait will be worth it and the game will release in a highly complete state.

Other relevant details

  • Re:Boot’s script will use Steins;Gate Elite’s as a base; Hayashi states that the game’s pacing will be more in line with the anime adaptation’s.
  • According to Matsubara, the main theme of Steins;Gate Elite was “animation.” To create something similar to that effect requires the use of existing animation, which introduces too significant a workload. Considering the future of the SciADV series, the team decided that “rebooting” Steins;Gate from its original release fifteen years ago would be fairly helpful for future series planning and development.
  • The interviewer asks if MAGES. has any plans for a 2025 reveal or announcement. Matsubara answers that they can’t spoil the answer, but to stay tuned.
  • Chiyomaru Shikura is focused on the development of a new series entry.
  • The staff is greatly appreciative of Chinese fans’ enthusiasm for Steins;Gate, both in-person at WePlay and online on social media.
