  • Post author:

Fans of Steins;Gate were in for quite a shock when the title’s parent company, MAGES., announced on April 2, 2019 that Steins;Gate would be receiving ten new exclusive projects in light of the upcoming tenth anniversary of its release.

Over a year has passed since that announcement, and we now have some level of information on every one of these ten Steins;Gate projects. To make things easier for everyone, we have summarized information on every official tenth anniversary project below, including some other reveals that fans might find interesting.

Please note that the other included reveals are not part of the ten official anniversary projects, and are listed as “Interludes.”

The following article contains spoilers for Steins;Gate.

Prelude: Steins;Gate April Fools’ announcements

One day before MAGES. posted their legitimate announcement of ten anniversary projects, they celebrated April Fools’ day by revealing ten fake projects. Among these projects were a parody of Steins;Gate Elite featuring genderswapped versions of the characters, a parody of the massively popular Fate/Grand Order gacha game, and an otome game focusing primarily on the male cast of Steins;Gate.

If you’re interested in seeing more, we’ve gathered all of the April Fools’ announcements in this article.

Project #1: “Science Adventure Live” concert

The first of the ten official tenth anniversary projects announced was a Science Adventure live concert, which featured vocal talents such as Itou Kanako, Yui Sakakibara, and many of the Steins;Gate cast’s voice actors. Though it was originally meant to be held on October 12, 2019 in Tokyo, it was rescheduled to January 26, 2020 because of Typhoon Hagibis.

This concert is also where several big announcements were made. Steins;Gate 0 Elite, a fully-animated remake of the Steins;Gate 0 visual novel was announced alongside a new trailer for the next game in the series, Anonymous;Code. A Hollywood Steins;Gate series and a series of collaborations between Steins;Gate and other franchises were also announced here, and we’ll cover those in more detail later in this article.

Project #2: “Operation Gullveig” stamp collection event

The second announced project was a stamp collection event held in Akihabara, the town in which Steins;Gate takes place. Participants were able to go to eight different stores throughout the city and collect Steins;Gate-themed stamps. Participants were able to collect free Kurisu Makise uchiwa fans while supplies lasted, and participants who collected all eight stamps could also collect an Upa uchiwa fan.

MAGES. also hosted a Twitter giveaway event to celebrate, and prizes included sets of Steins;Gate Elite and Divergencies Assort, Upa uchiwa fans, and reprints of an original Steins;Gate poster.

Interlude: ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE and DaSH English localizations announced

While all of that was going on in Japan, Spike Chunsoft Inc. surprised Western audiences with an announcement of their own; it was revealed that ROBOTICS;NOTES ELITE and its sequel, ROBOTICS;NOTES DaSH would be receiving official localizations for Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. For the uninitiated, these games take place in the future of the Steins Gate worldline, and in addition to being engaging and exciting stories on their own, they also feature a number of interesting connections to Steins;Gate and the Science Adventure series, such as the presence of both Nae Tennouji and Itaru (Daru) Hashida as important characters in the story.

We now know that both games will be releasing in a single package on October 13, 2020. Their Day One editions, which include exclusive themed pins, are available for preorder from Amazon, GameStop, Numskull Games, and other retailers.

Project #3: New merchandise at Comiket 96

The third anniversary project announced was the selling of two new pieces of Steins;Gate merchandise at Japan’s 96th Comic Market (Comiket). The merchandise included a tenth anniversary-themed T-shirt, and two Lab Mem badges in a themed case.

Interlude: Real-life Amadeus Kurisu AI app

Revealed separately from the ten anniversary projects was another project of note; the “Amadeus Kurisu Realization App” is a real life application that aims to replicate Amadeus Kurisu in real life. Users are able to ask Amadeus questions, and using what is likely artificial neural networks, Amadeus will attempt to respond in a Kurisu-like manner. User-submitted samples are what appear to improve the AI’s answers and ways of answering. More information on the app, as well as a video of it in action, can be viewed here.

Project #4: Artwork ownership auction and lotteries

For the fourth of the anniversary projects, MAGES. announced that the ownership rights for various pieces of official Steins;Gate art were being sold via online auctions are lotteries. This included a brand new illustration by the visual novel’s artist, huke, as pictured above.

Each piece of art aside from the new illustration was sold for ¥40,000 (approximately $366 USD or €331) via lottery. The new illustration was sold via auction, and the price it was sold at is not known—since the minimum bid amount was ¥150,000 or above (approximately $1,375 USD or €1,240), we can assume that it was sold for more than that amount.

Project #5: new merchandise at Comiket 97

The fifth of the anniversary announcements was, once again, the reveal of more new themed merchandise to be sold and/or distributed at Comiket 97. This time around, there was much more merchandise being sold, and the booth itself was themed around the Future Gadget Laboratory.

The booth was marketed as the Future Gadget Laboratory hosting its first booth at ComiMa, the in-universe equivalent of Comiket. Among the goods being sold were a brand new T-shirt, Lab Mem pins, and reproductions of Moeka Kiryu’s used glasses cleaning cloth.

Interlude: Steins;Gate My Darling’s Embrace English localization released

It was during this time that Spike Chunsoft Inc. both announced and officially released an English localization for the Steins;Gate dating sim spin-off visual novel, My Darling’s Embrace. The visual novel was made available on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

At the same time, Spike Chunsoft Inc. also officially released Steins;Gate 0 on the Nintendo Switch. With those two releases, 2 out of the 3 Steins;Gate game ports available in Japan through the Divergencies Assort game bundle were made available to English fans for separate purchase. The last of the three games, Linear Bounded Phenogram, has yet to surface on the Nintendo Switch for English fans unfortunately.

Interlude: “Gate of Steiner” music track compilation revealed

The music track synonymous with the themes and story of Steins;Gate got its own time in the spotlight when MAGES. announced that a “Gate of Steiner” compilation album would be released on March 18, 2020.

This release featured over 50 official renditions of the track on 2 CDs, originating from sources such as the original Steins;Gate visual novel, the anime adaptation, and even ROBOTICS;NOTES DaSH. In addition, the release also featured a brand new remix by series composer Takeshi Abo, produced in celebration of Steins;Gate’s anniversary.

Project #6: Hello Kitty/Sanrio and other collaborations

One of the announcements at the SciADV Live concert was a series of collaborations between Steins;Gate and other properties, the most prominent of them being Sanrio’s Hello Kitty. Announced right off the bat was a collaboration between Studio MGCM’s RPG Magicami and Steins;Gate, and a collaboration with figurine producer Wave for the creation of a Kurisu figurine.

The Hello Kitty collaboration was the most ambitious, producing a four-part “prologue story” wherein the Steins;Gate cast and Hello Kitty interacted, a new piece of artwork by huke, and Steins;Gate/Hello Kitty-themed merchandise sold temporarily in Akihabara.

Project #10: Steins;Gate Hollywood series

MAGES. surprised everyone by choosing to reveal the tenth Steins;Gate project early; it was announced at the SciADV Live concert that a live action Steins;Gate-related series would be produced by Skydance Television, known for their work on the Manhattan and Jack Ryan TV series.

Not much else is known about this series as of yet other than the fact that it is continuing to be worked on. The recent global pandemic may have delayed or slowed down any definitive work on it for the time being.

Interlude: Steins;Gate/iDOLM@STER collaboration

In July 2020, it was announced that a Steins;Gate-themed crossover would be introduced in the Japanese rhythm game The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls: Starlight Stage. This collaboration would go on to include Steins;Gate-themed in-game room items and covers of Steins;Gate songs by the game’s characters.

Projects 7, 8, and 9: What we know so far

Finally, in a recent interview, MAGES. CEO Chiyomaru Shikura revealed the company’s plans for the final three Steins;Gate tenth anniversary projects.

According to him, the seventh project will be a batch of free Steins;Gate anime and manga releases. How these anime and manga will be distributed is unknown, but it’s probably safe to assume that it will be done digitally. Extended details on this project are sparse, but we think it’s safe to assume that the distributed content will be old, previously available content rather than new content.

Shikura stated that the eighth project will be some kind of conference event wherein more details about the upcoming Science Adventure title Anonymous;Code will be revealed, such as the state of its development and its release date. It is expected that details about MAGES.’ other upcoming projects will also be revealed at this event. These projects will likely include ports of older MAGES. games.

In regards to the ninth and final anniversary project, all Shikura had to say was that it “…is an earth-shattering bomb we are preparing, please look forward to it!” It is expected that this project will be revealed at the aforementioned conference event. With what few details are available, it’s easy to see that MAGES. has something big in store for us, but only time will tell exactly what it is.

In the same interview, Shikura also detailed his plans to release an “Avengers”-style crossover story after Anonymous;Code wherein the casts of all previous SciADV titles will team up and push the series one step forward. Whatever form this crossover may take, it’s clear to see that these are exciting times for the Science Adventure series and its fans.

If you’ve made it this far, congratulations! You are now caught up with what has occurred so far to celebrate Steins;Gate’s tenth anniversary. As always, we will strive to continue to keep you up to date on the future of Steins;Gate and the Science Adventure series. Thank you for reading.
